CPRR - Central Pacific Railroad Cast Iron Journal Box Cover
Item #: 5079 Here is a very hard to find piece from the Central Pacific Railroad. It is cast in nice bold serif letters "CPRR" on the front. This journal box cover from a boxcar was found on the old CPRR roadbed. It is cast iron, and is 1/2" thick, 6" wide and 7" tall, and has lots of patina. This old piece is in pretty good condition, considering it fell off a boxcar and laid in the dirt for over 100 years. CPRR was incorporated in 1861 and was acquired by the Southern Pacific Company in 1885 as a leased line. A very nice collectible from one of the two railroads that built the Transcontinental Railroad in 1869.
