Item #: 5092 A very nice Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad double wire guard lantern with flat verticals that is sure to please. The frame has been cleaned of oil, dirt, and then hand polished showing lots of patina. It is embossed on the top lid "Burlington Route, The Handlan, Handlan-Buck Mfg. Co., St. Louis" The bail was wrapped with insulated wire for a non-conductive material to be used in electrified operations where electrocution was a danger. We believe the bail holder was removed so that it would not create a spark from the frame to the bail. It comes with a very nice red cast "Burlington Route" 5 3/8"tall Corning globe in the rounded panel. On the backside of the globe is a 1" x 1/4" area showing some light scuff marks below the Cnx logo. The top and bottom rims have a few very small rim chips or flakes that will not be seen when in the frame. The twist-off Handlan fount and burner are in great condition. This Midwest railroad piece with lots of character will be a fine addition to your collection.
