Still beautiful today, this 1860's-70's period kerosene lamp is a fine example of elegant Victorian lighting. This is a monumental size lamp, with a pear shaped fount. The fount is ruby stained and frosted in a floral and leaf pattern. The base is opaque white glass in the baroque design, made famous by Atterbury & Co., and with a brass clinch-connection. The four prong burner is a little newer than the lamp itself, marked "P&A Mfg. Co., Pat. Aug. 11, 85" on the wick adjuster. The lamp is in very good condition, with very light surface wear from age. There are no chips or cracks in the glass fount or base. There is a 1" long stress crack (probably from heat) on one edge of the P&A burner (see photo). The chimney is a new replacement. Dimensions of this fine kerosene lamp are; 6 3/4" square base, and the lamp is 12 1/2" tall (to the top of the brass collar). With the chimney on, the lamp is 27" tall. A very similar lamp is pictured on page 85 of Catherine M.V. Thuro's 1994 Book; " Oil Lamps II-Glass Kerosene Lamps." A very attractive oil lamp to grace your mantle!
