Here is a very nice and hard to find lantern for you Colorado Railroadiana enthusiasts! This Handlan-Buck double wire guard flat vertical lantern has lots of original tin and solid metal, and is from the standard gauge Colorado Midland Railroad. The lantern is 10 1/2" tall without the bail. The lantern comes with a dark red unmarked 5 1/2" tall extended base globe that is in very good condition. The top and bottom rims of the globe have very small chips or flea bites and several small factory air bubbles. The lantern is embossed on the top lid "Colo. Mid R.R., "The Handlan", Handlan-Buck Mfg. Co., St. Louis", with the patent dates embossed on the very top dome "Dec. 18, 88, Jun. 18, 89, Sept. 24, 89". The lantern comes with the correct Handlan drop in fount and burner that has lots of tin no pin holes. Incorporated in 1883, the Colorado Midland railroad was the first standard gauge railroad built over the Continental Divide in Colorado. It ran from Colorado Springs to Leadville and through the divide at Hagerman Pass to Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction. It ceased operations in 1918. A very hard to find lantern missing in most collections, don't let this one pass you by!
