An original Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad tall globe lantern to add to your collection. This beautiful Handlan flat-top frame is all original with lots of tin and solid metal. We only removed the oil & dirt, then hand-polished it. Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad tall globe lanterns are getting harder to find these days. Tall globe lanterns were replaced with short globe lanterns around the early 1920's. The transition year for the name change of D&RG to D&RGW was 1921. So most of the D&RGW lanterns you will find will be short globe A&W Adlake No. 200, 250, or Handlan frames. Embossed on the top lid is "D&RGW, Handlan, St. Louis, 2247" On the bottom of the fount holder it is marked "Handlan, St. Louis", with patent dates. There is some minor light surface roughness on the top lid. The frame stands 9 1/2" tall without the bail. The lantern comes with the correct Handlan fount and burner with no pin holes, solid metal and tin. The 5 3/8" tall Macbeth-Evans Glass Co. (MEG) clear etched "D&RGW" globe is in excellent condition with only one very small 1/8" inside rim flake on the bottom rim and one air bubble below the right side of D&RGW. The globe is embossed at the top "M.E.G. Co., 24", above the etched "Safety First". So don't let this rare Colorado beauty slip by you, it will not last long.
